Large Themed Landscape Installation for the Central Lake

โœจ Project Highlights

A large dragon lantern sculpture with a complex curved structure was designed to replace the original dragon boat installation. The project combines daytime landscape aesthetics with nighttime lighting effects, while including design development and overall project planning.

โš™๏ธ Project Challenges

Lake-center installation, complex large-scale curved structures, lighting integration, and on-site implementation all required careful coordination throughout the project.

Dubai Global Village is one of the best-known cultural theme parks in the Middle East, hosting large-scale cultural, entertainment and seasonal festival events every year and attracting visitors from around the world. To further enhance the overall landscape of the park, the client planned to replace the original dragon boat installation in the central lake with a more visually striking large dragon lantern sculpture, creating a new visual landmark within the park.

1. Starting with the Project Requirements

The sculpture is located in the center of the lake, making it highly visible from multiple viewing angles throughout the park.

Before design work began, the project required careful consideration of:

  • The overall dragon sculpture form and proportions
  • The surrounding lake environment and visitor viewing directions
  • Daytime appearance and nighttime lighting effects
  • Future transportation and installation requirements

To ensure long-term outdoor performance, the project team also evaluated the local environment, structural safety and future maintenance requirements at an early stage, allowing the design to better suit real project conditions.

2. Design Development to Turn the Concept into Reality

After receiving the initial project concept, the design team further developed the entire proposal, including:

  • Daytime and nighttime renderings
  • Animated presentation materials
  • Complete CAD construction drawings

During the design development stage, special attention was given to the structural system, foundation design, dimensions, electrical layout, lighting system and fabrication process, ensuring that the design would not only achieve the desired visual effect but also move smoothly into production and on-site installation.

3. Planning Transportation and Installation Before Fabrication

Because of the project’s large scale and its final installation location in the center of the lake, fabrication planning needed to be coordinated with transportation and installation requirements from the very beginning.

Before production started, the team had already planned:

  • Component segmentation
  • Packing methods
  • Transportation arrangements
  • On-site assembly procedures

This ensured that design, fabrication, shipping and installation could work together as one complete process rather than separate stages.

4. Turning the Design into a Completed Installation

After the sculpture arrived in Dubai, the installation team completed the assembly and final adjustments according to the pre-planned installation strategy, followed by the commissioning of the lighting system.

Thanks to the comprehensive design development and construction planning completed in advance, the installation progressed smoothly, allowing the dragon lantern landscape sculpture to achieve its intended daytime and nighttime visual effects and become one of the new landscape highlights within Dubai Global Village.

5. A Large Theme Park Sculpture Project Requires More Than Fabrication

A successful large outdoor sculpture project involves much more than manufacturing the sculpture itself.

From project planning and design development to structural coordination, electrical and lighting design, followed by fabrication, transportation and on-site installation, every stage requires early coordination.

For cultural tourism destinations, theme parks and large public spaces, comprehensive planning from the beginning helps reduce project risks, improve delivery efficiency and ensure the final landscape presentation meets expectations.
